Hacienda Las Colinas is not only a ranch, it is also a Project of preservation of the wildlife. We are committed to contribute to the country policy for reforesting and create biological corridors facilitating endangered species to recolonize the region. After only 3 years, some animal species have already came back in the area like squirrel monkeys, wild cats, deers, and few couples of Scarlet Marcaws are now permanent.

Preservation & Authenticity
A premium experience
- By 2020, about 30% of the property was covered by primary forests, the rest was pasture land. End of 2022, 37% is covered by trees. Over 4,000 trees have been planted during the first 24 months. We enjoy inviting our visitors to also plant some trees as a personal contribution to the climate change and carbon compensation.
- By planting trees along creeks (usually dried during dry season), we rapidly observe how it modifies the hydrology of the hills. The water flows during longer period in a year, attracting mammals, birds, butterflies, etc. We also facilitate the migration of mammals between the mountains and the pacific ocean coast by maintaining the primary forest along the Rio Chires which provides cooler air, water all year round and connect the different climate between the coast and the mountains. We are so happy when we observe a new family of squirrel monkeys (which have nearly disappeared from Costa Rica 30 years ago), eagles, Ara (Scarlet Macaw) couples, etc.
- Develop new uses of the land by developing responsible agriculture of Cacao and Vanilla with new jobs for the community. The Cacao from Costa Rica beans have become among the best cacao in the world.
- Discover the Authentic Costa Rica in the best way, on horseback. The relationship between the horses and our visitors transform their journey in Costa Rica. It is a unique experience. From the top of the hills or crossing the river with the horse is just something unforgettable. Our top priority in the training of our horses and the incredible lovely conditions of living we offer to them.
